FIGEAC 2010 ET 2009 - Dégusté par la RVF - Revue du Vin de France - Septembre 2012
FIGEAC 2010

FIGEAC 2011 - Tasting Notes - EN PRIMEURS
James Suckling - www.jamessuckling.com
93-94 - A like the quality of the tannins in this plenty of subtle berry and chocolate character. Full body, with a lovely acidity. Wonderful length to it. This is really pretty.
James Molesworth - Wine Spectator
92–95
A reticent, muscular style, with lots of macerated dark currant and plum notes and ample briary grip cutting through on the finish. This has depth and heft and needs some time to stretch out fully.—J.M.
Decanter - www.decanter.com
****
Subtle and understated. Remains within the bounds of the vintage. Medium-bodied and fresh. Elegant but will be too lean for some. Drink 2018-2028. (17 points)

THE VINEYARD AT FIGEAC - 19th July 2011
After an exceptionally hot and dry spring which brought about magnificent flowering in the vines and the development of superb bunches, rain arrived in July as the veraison was in progress. This change in colour of the grapes marks the beginning of the ripening of the grape which becomes a fruit.
END OF THE PRIMEURS CAMPAIGN AT FIGEAC - 13th July 2011
The 2010 primeurs campaign has come to a close. Begun back in March with the first professional tastings, it reached a peak during primeurs tasting week at the beginning of April, extending then to Vinexpo with numerous tastings in France and abroad. The campaign was concluded traditionally with the release on the market of Chateau-Figeac 2010 which is showing excellent quality and is on a par with the greatest vintages ever produced at Figeac, as testified by the excellent tasting comments and enthusiastic reaction of amateur and professional tasters alike.
CHATEAU FIGEAC 2010 - TASTING SCORES AND COMMENTS
Pierre Guigui – Gault & Millau19.5
Extatique !

James Lawther MW – Decanter
18,5/20*****
This is a Figeac wine with plenty of substance but still elegant and fresh in style. Dense, lively, expressive fruit. Firm but fine tannins. Great length.
Tim Atkin

As it was in 2009, this is one of the top reds on the Right Bank. I only hope the price is a little more sensible, after last year’s miscalculation. The Cabernet Sauvignon at the core of the wine is what makes it so special, giving it rigour and structure for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc to adorn. On second tasting, the wine was even better: fine, grassy, yet concentrated. 20+ years.
Roger Voss - Wine Enthusiast
94–96
Tannic, juicy Merlot, very rich, laced with intense acidity. Blackberry flavors dominate this super-rich wine. Cutting through the richness is a core of dryness, of dark structure.
James Sukling
94-95
This is very structured, with a solid core of plums, chocolate and bright acidity. Firm and silky tannins and a long, long finish. A powerful and structured young wine.
James Molesworth - Wine Spectator’s
93-96
Exotic fig, boysenberry and blueberry preserves are married to polished tobacco and spice notes in this dense red, which has lots in reserve but is very sleek through the finish for now. It feels as if this will fill out considerably with more élevage.
Philippe Maurange - La Revue des Vins de France
17/18 – Réussites exceptionnelles
"... En 2010, le cabernet franc a « tramé » le vin, apportant de la fraicheur et un profil épicé dominant, sans apparaître aussi massif qu’en 2009. Cependant, il faut noter la richesse en alcool avec un 13,8°, un record pour Figeac ! Les cabernets qui représentent 60% de l’assemblage final, atténuent cet excès et maintiennent l’agrément du style maison."
Jancis Robinson
16.5++
Very dark crimson. Medium concentration. High-toned minerality on the nose. Lots of appetising sap and savour. Loose and round and easy peasy. Attractive in that it’s not overdone; possibly a chance missed in that it’s just slightly slack. Or possibly it’s Figeac..! Ah. That last phrase was written when I tasted this blind and it's true that this potentially great wine rarely shows well en primeur. Hence the hopeful double plus after the score. Though its gravel soils will not have done the wine any favours in this exceptionally dry vintage.
Derek Smedley - MW
92-96
There is a lot happening on the nose with ripe rich fruit overlaid by fresher red fruited fragrances. The palate is deep and complex black fruited richness balanced by red cherry freshness. There is lots of concentration but an underlying elegance.

2010 en PRIMEURS - April 2011
2010 IS SHOWING EXCELLENT QUALITY AND IS ON A PAR WITH THE GREATEST VINTAGES EVER PRODUCED AT FIGEAC
We find lots of roundness and flesh in the Merlot. The Cabernet Franc reveals red berry fruit and great finesse in the tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon displays a floral aspect as well as red berry and black fruit. Wonderful complexity and lovely freshness on the palate. Great potential for its ageing in barrel and in bottle.
Winter in the vines at Figeac - 2011
The year 2010 began with a cold, dry winter. At the end of January, heavy rain topped up the water tables, providing water reserves for the vines.
February and March were dry and cold. This weather pattern prolonged the vines’ dormant period, which only ended on 2nd April, with the first budding in our gravel plots.
The cool temperatures (12°C on average) made vine shooting slow and homogeneous for all of our grape varieties.
